Korean dental implants, planned honestly as two trips

Korean dental implants have a good reputation for a simple reason: Korea places a very large number of them, and several major implant brands are made here. That keeps the per-tooth price down. What no clinic can shorten is biology. The implant is placed on the first trip, the bone grows around it for a few months, and the crown goes on during a second trip. Each trip is about five to seven days. If someone offers you everything in one week, ask hard questions.

  • Usually two trips: implant placement first, crown two to six months later once the bone has healed.
  • Each trip is about 5–7 days with three visits. Placement takes one to two hours under local anesthesia.
  • Bone grafting or a sinus lift adds cost and healing time. The CT scan on day one tells you if you need it.

What she does on your clinic day

  1. Before the first trip

She sends your X-ray or CT to the clinic so the dentist can outline a plan and both trips can be scheduled before you buy tickets.

  2. In the chair

She translates the CT findings, the brand options and the consent form. During surgery she is in the room, so you can signal discomfort without words.

  3. Between the trips

If the site aches or a healing cap comes loose at home, she gets the dentist's advice to you in English and books trip two around your healing.

Meet the interpreters

Stay in Korea

  1. Trip 1, day 1

    CT scan and plan

3D CT, bone assessment and a written plan: number of implants, brand, grafting or not, total per tooth.

  2. Trip 1, day 2

    Implant placement

One to two hours under local anesthesia. Swelling peaks over the next two days. Soft food, no smoking.

  3. Trip 1, day 5–7

    Check and stitches

The dentist checks healing and removes stitches. You fly home with a temporary solution if the gap shows.

  4. Month 2–6

    Healing at home

Bone bonds to the implant. The lower jaw usually heals faster than the upper. Grafted sites take longer.

  5. Trip 2

    Crown

Impression or digital scan, then the crown is fitted and adjusted over about a week.

Typical price in Seoul

The figure on this page is per tooth and normally covers the implant, abutment and crown, but confirm that. Korean-made implant brands sit at the lower end and imported brands higher. Zirconia crowns cost more than metal-ceramic. Bone grafts, sinus lifts, extractions and temporary teeth are quoted separately. Your written plan lists the cost of both trips before you commit to the first.

  • You are missing one or more teeth, or have a tooth that cannot be saved
  • You can come to Korea twice within a year, or already travel here for work or family
  • You want to know the implant brand and have its records for your dentist at home
  • You have diabetes, smoke or take bone medication and want a dentist to assess the risk properly

Questions patients ask us

Can I get dental implants in Korea in one trip?
Sometimes, in selected cases with strong bone, a dentist can place an implant and a temporary crown quickly. For most people the safe path is two trips, because the implant must bond with the bone before it carries a final crown. The CT scan decides, not the brochure.
Which implant brands do Korean dentists use?
Korean manufacturers are widely used here and exported around the world, and many clinics also offer European brands. Ask for the brand, model and size in writing. Your dentist at home will need that if a part ever has to be tightened or replaced.
How long between the two trips?
Commonly two to three months for the lower jaw and four to six for the upper, longer with bone grafting. Your dentist gives you a window, and your interpreter books the second trip inside it.
Does implant surgery hurt?
The placement is done under local anesthesia, so you feel pressure and vibration more than pain. Soreness and swelling afterwards are usually managed with the prescribed medication. Tell the dentist if you are anxious, since some clinics offer sedation at extra cost.
What if I only need a cosmetic change, not a missing tooth replaced?
Then implants are the wrong tool. Look at veneers for shape and colour or teeth whitening for colour alone.
