Hair Transplant

FUE hair transplant in Korea: know your graft count before you fly

An FUE hair transplant in Korea is priced by one number: how many grafts you need. The surgeon takes follicles one by one from the back of your head and places them where hair has thinned. It is a long day, four to eight hours under local anesthesia, followed by three to five days in Seoul for a wash and a check. Send photos first. A graft estimate before you fly turns a vague price range into a real quote.

  • Price follows graft count. Photos from five angles get you an estimate before you book anything.
  • One surgery day of 4–8 hours, three visits, 3–5 days in Seoul.
  • Transplanted hairs shed in the first weeks. Growth starts around month 3–4, and the result is judged at 12 months.

What she does on your clinic day

  1. Before you fly

She sends your photos to the clinics and brings back graft estimates and written quotes. She asks each clinic who extracts and who implants.

  2. On surgery day

The hairline is drawn on your forehead before anything else. She makes sure its height and shape are what you want, then stays through the day, including the lunch break.

  3. Wash and aftercare

She comes to the first wash, films the technique on your phone if you like, and writes out the spray, sleep and shampoo routine in English.

Stay in Korea

  1. Day 1

    Consultation and design

Scalp and donor check, hairline design, final graft count and quote. Blood tests. Surgery may be the same day at some clinics.

  2. Day 1–2

    Surgery

Four to eight hours under local anesthesia: extraction, a break, then implantation. You can watch films. You leave with a bandage on the donor area.

  3. Next day

    First wash and check

The clinic washes your scalp, checks the grafts and shows you how to do it yourself.

  4. Day 3–5

    Fly home

Forehead swelling may appear around day 3 and passes. Scabs fall off in about 7–10 days.

  5. Month 1–12

    Shedding, then growth

Transplanted hairs shed within weeks. New growth shows from month 3–4 and thickens through month 12.

Typical price in Seoul

The range on this page reflects typical cases from smaller hairline work to large sessions. Your quote is graft count multiplied by the clinic's per-graft rate, plus options. No-shave FUE, where the donor area is hidden under your existing hair, costs more. Surgeon-performed extraction costs more than team-based extraction. Both are worth asking about.

  • You have a receding hairline or thinning crown and a healthy donor area at the back
  • Your hair loss has been assessed by a doctor, and you are open to medication to protect the hair you still have
  • You want surgeon involvement in design and extraction, not a technician-only procedure
  • You can keep your head out of the sun and the gym for a couple of weeks

Questions patients ask us

How much does a hair transplant cost in Korea?
See the estimated range on this page. The real figure comes from your graft count, which a clinic can estimate from photos. You receive it in writing, at the local partner rate, before you book flights.
Hair transplant in Korea vs Turkey: what is the difference?
Turkey is known for low package prices and very high volume. Korean clinics generally price per graft, run fewer cases a day, and put emphasis on natural hairline design. Korea usually costs more. Compare who performs each step, not just the total.
Do I have to shave my head?
For standard FUE the donor area is shaved, and often the recipient area too. Many Seoul clinics offer no-shave or partial-shave FUE at a higher price. It takes longer, so it suits smaller graft counts better.
When will I see results?
Expect the transplanted hairs to fall out between week 2 and week 8. That is normal. New hairs appear around month 3–4, and the final density is judged at about 12 months.
Will I need medication as well?
A transplant moves hair. It does not stop further loss of your original hair. Many doctors recommend medical treatment alongside, and that is your doctor's decision with you. See hair loss treatment for the non-surgical side.
