Korean anti aging, from a toxin appointment to surgery, before and after
Written by KCODI medical interpreter team · English deskUpdated · 9 min read
Korean anti aging is a category, not a treatment, and the clinics know it. Walk into a Gangnam clinic asking to look less tired and you will be shown a plan with five line items, because five things are technically true about your face.
Our interpreters sit through that conversation weekly. The patients who leave happy are the ones who decided in advance which single change they wanted. The ones who leave with a long invoice are the ones who asked an open question.
This guide sorts the menu by what it actually addresses, how long each holds, and where the line sits between a treatment and an operation.
Decide what is bothering you first
Ageing shows up as four separate things, and each has its own answer. Confusing them is why people buy treatments that do nothing for the thing they see in photographs.
| What you see | What it is | Usual answer in Korea | How long it holds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lines that appear when you move | Muscle activity | Botulinum toxin | About 3–4 months |
| Hollow temples, flat cheeks, deep folds | Lost volume | Fillers or fat grafting | Months to a couple of years |
| Crepey, dull, thin-looking skin | Skin quality | Skin boosters, lasers, peels | Weeks to months, built over a course |
| Jawline softening, jowls, heavy lids | Laxity and descent | Lifting devices, threads, or surgery | Devices 6–12 months; surgery years |
Most people over-buy on row one and under-buy on row three. Toxin is fast and satisfying. Skin quality is what makes the before and after look like the same person on a better day.
The Korean wrinkle treatment menu, in order of commitment
- Toxin: fifteen minutes, no downtime, wears off. The standard first step, and the easiest to overdo. Our Korean botox brands guide explains the local products.
- Skin boosters and injectable hydration: small bumps for a day or two, results build over a course. See Rejuran and its siblings compared.
- Energy devices: ultrasound and radiofrequency lifting. One session, some soreness, effect appears over two to three months. Compared in Ultherapy vs Thermage.
- Threads: an afternoon procedure, real but temporary lift, bruising for days. Covered in PDO thread lift.
- Fat grafting: a small operation with swelling for a week or two, used for volume rather than lift. See face fat grafting.
- Surgery: eyelids, mini or deep plane facelift. Weeks of recovery, years of result. Start at Korean facelift: mini vs deep plane.
When anti-aging surgery in Korea is the straight answer
There is a point where non-surgical work stops giving value. It is usually visible in three places: the upper eyelid resting on the lashes, a jawline that no longer has an edge, and folds that stay in the same shape when you lie down.
Korea does a lot of this surgery, and the recovery arithmetic matters more than the technique name. Upper eyelid work is about a week to presentable. A mini lift is one to two weeks. A deep plane lift is longer, and it needs a stitch-out visit before you fly. Plan the trip around the follow-up, not the operation.
Our recovery time and stay guide has the day-by-day, and upper blepharoplasty covers hooded lids specifically.
About the anti-aging IV therapy clinics
Seoul has a large drip menu marketed for energy, brightness and ageing: glutathione, NAD, placenta extract, vitamin mixes. People search for the best anti-aging IV therapy clinics in Korea expecting a ranked list. We do not publish one, and here is why.
- The evidence for systemic anti-ageing effects from these drips is thin, and honest clinics describe them as wellness rather than treatment.
- The contents vary between clinics under the same menu name. Ask what is in the bag and at what dose.
- Some are prescription products used off-label. That is legal with a doctor's decision, and you are entitled to know it is happening.
- If you take regular medication, are pregnant, or have kidney or liver disease, this conversation needs a doctor rather than a counsellor.
We cover the menu without the marketing in the Korean IV drip and injectable menu and the glutathione injection guide.

Fitting Korean anti aging into one trip
A week is enough for a real result if you sequence it properly. The mistake is booking the treatment with downtime on the day before the flight.
- Day 1–2: consultation and skin analysis, then the item with the longest downtime.
- Day 3–4: toxin, which needs no recovery, and any laser the doctor is happy to stack.
- Day 5–6: a calming facial, and a review appointment if anything was injected.
- Last day: nothing new. Bruising on a long flight is miserable and you cannot be seen again.
- After you fly: keep the clinic contact for photos and questions. That follow-up is normal here.
If you are weighing devices against each other by downtime rather than by name, read Korean skin treatments compared. If you would rather describe the problem and let us shortlist, clinic matching takes about two minutes, and you can meet the interpreters who cover dermatology and facial surgery.
